IBM announces z196, the world’s “fastest” computer chip

IBM has announced what it claims is the world’s fastest computer chip, the new zEnterprise 196 (z196) processor. z196 is based on a four core architecture, has 1.4 billion transistors inside and has the mind blowing capability to handle more than 50 billion instructions per second.

The chip was manufactured using IBM’s 45 nanometer SOI processor and embedded DRAM (eDRAM) technology. It is expected to power the latest iteration of IBM’s mainframe, the zEnterprise 196, in which the company has invested $1.5 billion in research and development over the past three years. The IBM zEnterprise System offers 60% more capacity than its predecessor, the System z10, and can process roughly 17,000 times more instructions than IBM’s Model 91 from 1970.

IBM has poured $1.5 billion in research and development and over three years of collaboration with top clients around the world coming up with its zEnterprise technology.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Specification

On Thursday at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin Samsung unveiled its Galaxy Tab, a 7-inch touchscreen tablet running Android 2.2 and designed to compete with Apple’s iPad.

The Galaxy Tab is just one of the many tablets set to be unveiled at the IFA show in Berlin this week, following the success of Apple’s iPad. Many of the devices will run Google’s Android, which many see as a more open alternative to Apple’s iOS, which infamously doesn’t run Adobe’s Flash.

Dubbed the Galaxy Tab, the device features a 7-inch TFT-LCD capacitive touch screen display with a 1024 x 600 resolution, 1.06 GHz Cortex A8 processor, 512MB RAM, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, 3G, and dual cameras for capturing still images, videos or making video calls. It also has support for a number of different formats, including DivX, Xvid, WMV and MPEG-4.

It features up to 32GB built-in memory, with a SD slot offering an additional 32GB. Samsung promised seven hours of battery life when playing video.

Toshiba Folio 100 Android Tablet

Toshiba has just announced a new 10.1in tablet device that uses the much vaunted Nvidia Tegra 2 platform, giving it the ablility to playback 1080p content. As well as video playback on the device, it also has HDMI out so can be used to play movies on your TV and thanks to the low power usage of Tegra, it will still give you up to seven hours battery life.

Folio 100 is designed with a 10-inch 1024×600 resolution touch capacitive touch panel which is ideal for web browsing with true mobility and in order not to limit its dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 250 graphics capability, there is a HDMI output that can easily scale and display full HD 1080p media contents on external display panel for greater multimedia experience. Besides, it has similar 3G, 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth wireless technologies as similar to Apple’s iPad but in order to increase storage flexibility, the device is believed to be integrated with SDHC slot for expansion storage instead of using an on-board flash memory.

Other specifications include 16GB internal storage that can be expanded via a combined SD/MMC card reader, USB port and a built in 1.3MP camera which iPad is lacking of. It does have a decent bunch of pre-installed apps, including the Opera Mobile web browser, Documents To Go office suite, Evernote, Fring, Adobe Flash 10.1, Toshiba media player, and the ebook reading app FBReader.

The Folio 100 is currently being showcased at IFA event preloaded with customized home screen running on Android 2.2 Operating Systems. The Folio 100 is due to roll out across Europe, Middle East and Africa during the fourth quarter of this year with a suggested retail price of around €399 ($512). No word on U.S. availability for now.

Mungkin raga kita terpisah samudra

berjarak ribuan mil

Memang kaki ini tak menjejak bumi pertiwi

tapi hati dan karya kami

tercurah untuk Indonesia tercinta

Hari ini bumi pertiwi masih menangis

Untuk setiap insan…

yang tak mampu mengenyam pendidikan

yang meringkuk di kolong jembatan

yang menjerit kelaparan

yang menangis digempur gempa dan banjir

yang tertindas kekuasaan
